How to Download Movies from Netflix for Offline Viewing?

Downloading movies to watch offline is a great way to avoid problems with the internet. Knowing the Wi-Fi will be unavailable, how will you be able to watch your favorite Netflix movies and shows?

Netflix, it turns out, allows you to download a lot of material for offline streaming — in other words, you can always carry your favorite TV shows and must-see movies with you on long trips. Continue reading to learn how to download Netflix movies for offline viewing.

The instructions below should operate on devices running iOS, Android, and Windows 10. Users of Windows PCs can download episodes to watch offline, but they must do so using the Netflix app from the Windows Store.

Getting Your Netflix Download On

Step 1: Get up to Date Netflix App

First and foremost, ensure that your Netflix app is updated. If your device isn't set to auto-update, go to the App Store on an iOS device (version 9.0 or later is required), or go to the Google Play Store on an Android device.

If you want to use Netflix on Windows 10, go to the Store from the taskbar or the Start menu, press your user icon, and then Downloads or Updates. Finally, select Check for Updates to start updating the Netflix program.

Step 2: Choose your Download Quality on Netflix

Downloads from Netflix are available in two quality levels: Standard and Higher. The latter appears to be high definition, with a resolution somewhere between 720p and 1080p, but Netflix does not specify.

Standard takes up less space on your laptop and helps you download content faster, while High needs more space and patience. Which one you choose will be determined by the amount of free space you have and the type of device you're using. For example, on your new phone, the standard model may look good, but a higher resolution may be preferable for your tablet or laptop.

Locate the App Settings menu to make your selection. On Android or iOS mobile apps, it could be named More or found under your profile icon. Select your favorite quality by clicking or tapping Video Quality or Download Video Quality (Android) under the Downloads heading.

Step 3: Pick your Poison

While not everything on Netflix is available for download, it has made it easy to find downloadable titles by putting them together in a segment called "Available for Download." When you pick TV Shows or Movies, his category appears as a submenu among the other genre choices. It will be the penultimate choice under the Home section on Windows 10 computers.

If you're using the Netflix app for iOS or Android, you can browse the available titles by selecting Find More to Download or Find Something to Download under the Downloads tab. If you're looking for a particular title, the download symbol, which is a downward arrow with a horizontal line under it, will let you know that it can be downloaded.

Step 4: Start Downloading in Netflix App

Select the Download icon next to the show or movie you want to watch to begin downloading it. Here's a quick pro-tip for Android users: You can choose which storage location for downloads in the Netflix app.

Netflix used to default to the storage device where the program was mounted. However, thanks to a recent update, you can now insert a microSD card into your smartphone and set it as your default download position in the App Settings menu.

Step 5: Watch your Downloaded Titles

All Netflix stuff will appear in the Downloads section after it has been downloaded. On mobile devices, tap the Downloads menu; on Windows, tap the menu button in the app's upper-left corner. The size and rating of the title are listed right next to it. Click or tap the video thumbnail to begin watching an episode.
